Off-Season Stroke Clinics
At just 8 weeks in length - 10 weeks if you include pre-season practices - the Louisville Dolphins season passes in a flash. The improvement in kids' swimming technique and conditioning is often impressive, but many swimmers eventually want to do some work during the off-season so that they can start the season stronger. One great option for making progress during the off-season is the Stroke Clinics that are held indoors at the Louisville Rec Center and run by Louisville Dolphins coaches.
These classes are either 45 or 90 minutes in length, and they focus on swimming technique as well as conditioning. Class sizes are typically smaller than Dolphins summer swim practices, so swimmers receive a great deal of specific, individualized instruction. The classes are open to any children interested in improving their competitive swimming technique, including children who do not swim with the Louisville Dolphins during the summer season.
The Boulder Valley Summer Swim League (BVSSL) homepage lists all of the Eligibility Requirements for competition in BVSSL meets. From November 1st through the start of the summer season the following year, swimmers may not take part in competitions and may workout with a coach at most three days per week. These requirements are intended to keep BVSSL competition a little more fun and casual while steering more serious, year-round swimmers into other leagues.
Dolphins Stroke Clinics are held from September through the end of November, and from January through the end of April. Classes are offered Monday-Thursday, and registrations are for four Mondays over the course of one month, for example. Swimmers may register for up to three classes each month during the November-April window if they want to maintain eligibility for summer swimming in BVSSL.
Please go to the Louisville Rec Center Registration site to view available classes. You will need to create an account with the Rec Center to sign up and pay for classes. The cost of Stroke Clinics includes admission to the Rec Center for each class session.
