Coaches
Kimberly grew up in California, spending as much time as possible at the pool. First as an enthusiastic swimmer, then a lifeguard and swim instructor, and eventually as a fulltime swim coach. She has been coaching for 19 years, with certifications from USA Swimming, US Masters Swimming and American Swimming Coaches Association.
Kimberly's own athletic career includes seven years as a professional triathlete and she continues to compete in swimming, running and triathlon.
In addition to coaching the Dolphins, Kimberly is the Head Coach for the University of Colorado Boulder Swim team, and she enjoys the balance of summer league and summer camps, which provide the opportunity to work with younger, newer swimmers between college seasons.
Kimberly's primary goals as a coach are to help develop a lifelong love of swimming, and to teach her swimmers to leverage the discipline and teamwork learned at the pool to foster confidence, friendships, and success in everyday life.
Hi everyone! My name is August Cook, and I'm originally from Syracuse, NY. I’ve been passionate about aquatic sports for as long as I can remember, and began swimming competitively in middle school. After high school, I went on to swim at the NCAA Division III level for SUNY Purchase, where I earned a degree in music. Currently, I’m working toward my second degree in mechanical engineering as a senior at CU Boulder.
Alongside my studies, I stay active in the swim community as a coach with Boulder Aquatics Masters, the Fairview High School boys varsity swim team, and as a personal swim trainer at CU Boulder. In addition to swimming, I’ve worked as a personal trainer for tennis and as a ski and snowboard instructor—staying active and involved in sports has always been a central part of my life.
This will be my second season coaching with the Dolphins, and I’m excited to be back! I’m looking forward to another fun and successful season with your swimmers. I believe that an active and healthy lifestyle helps bring out the best in each athlete, both in and out of the pool.
A water rat since I was old enough to “bob” in the water in a life vest, I swam my first race at 7 winning against popular belief with an efficient dog paddle against an inefficient freestyle. I began coaching with my summer club team at 12 having a “special status” as the only AAU swimmer. I swam in both high school and college and was captain of both teams . After graduating, I swam and coached the Air Force and age group teams in Taipei Taiwan while in the service. I returned to coaching in 1988 with the High Mar Swim and Tennis Club, then the former Boulder Poseidon’s, North Jeffco Swim Club, and finally head coach of the Brighton Bull Frogs, and the Brighton HS girls and boys swim teams. Now that I am “retired” I am coaching with the Boulder Valley School District boys and girls dive teams, a new and exciting challenge for me.
Swimming has been a part of my life since I joined the Louisville Dolphins at six years old. I was taught to swim personally by Mary Ellen Ward, because I was too unfocused in group lessons to learn and not drown at the same time. At that time, no one thought there was any way I would become a competitive swimmer. I continued to swim for the Dolphins a total of ten years, swam four years with Monarch High School, captaining my senior year and attending State every year, finishing my career with the Dolphins as the BVSSL male Swimmer of the Year, Richard Lacy award recipient, and the Co-Captain of the team.
My own experiences have led me to the conclusion that the difference between mediocrity and greatness in a child can often fall to the people that surround them, including friends, parents and teachers. My hope is to not only create great swimmers, but to create a community of great people that inspire each other and everyone they meet.
I recently graduated with a Degree in Electrical Engineering from CU Boulder, and am employed at Syncroness Product Solutions. When I’m not working, I like to work with music and revel in the fact that I’m not in school anymore.
I’ve been swimming since I was five years old and continued all the way through college. Some of my closest friendships were formed through the sport, and I truly believe swimming is a special part of growing up. As a coach, I want my swimmers to have fun, get stronger, and build lasting friendships. I’m so excited to help them grow, find their confidence, and develop a love for swimming that can last a lifetime!
Swimming has forged lifelong friendships and a strong sense of teamwork. With a decade of competitive experience at Flatiron Athletic Club and Elevation Athletics, I am dedicated to building confidence, refining technique, and instilling a love for swimming. This dedication has driven me from the competitive side of the sport to coaching, as I've seen firsthand the profound impact coaching has on both performance and passion. I am committed to helping develop the next generation of swimmers to love the pool.
Over the past three years, I’ve taught private and group swim lessons to children of all ages through the Town of Superior, the Colorado Athletic Club, and my own private swim lesson business at my home pool.
As a proud alumna of Louisville Elementary School, I hold a deep connection to the community that nurtured my passion for collaboration. Currently, I’ve just completed my first year at the University of Texas at Austin, where I’m majoring in Speech and Language Pathology with a minor in Spanish in medical practice.
Karina is looking forward to starting her fifth season with the Dolphins. In addition to the Dolphin’s team, she also coaches Fairview girl’s and EA master’s swim teams. Prior to moving to Colorado in 2017, she was the head swim coach at Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany.
She grew up in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC, swimming summer league since the age of seven. She went on to swim as a scholarship athlete at Miami University, becoming the Conference Scholar-Athlete of the year and earning Academic All-American honors her senior year.
More recently, Karina has been competing in Masters swim competitions and she has won 20 Masters’ National Titles. This year, she broke the National Records in the 50 free and the 50 fly. Outside of the pool, Karina enjoys her work as an occupational therapist, being outdoors and spending time with her family.
I grew up in Boulder swimming, biking, and spending time in the mountains. I've swam competitively since I was young, and now I'm on the NCAA Division III triathlon team at Willamette University. Even though I love biking and swimming, I'm still learning to love running, but I enjoy the challenge! I'm currently a rising 3rd year biology major, and in my free time I love going for climbing, cycling, and skiing adventures around the Cascades with my friends!
My goal as a coach is to create an environment where swimmers can have fun in the sport and grow as athletes. Growth can mean many things, both in terms of the time on the clock, but also growing mentally - believing that you as an athlete can achieve your goals, whatever they may be. Just step up!
