Team Info

Since 1974, the Louisville Dolphins Swim Team has been providing children with unforgettable summer swimming experiences. We are a part of the Boulder Valley Summer Swim League (BVSSL) and we practice and compete at the Memory Square Pool in Louisville, Colorado. Our swimmers range from 5-year-olds who are just being introduced to competitive swimming through high school atheletes who compete and win at the state level and beyond.

Our season runs from Memorial Day through the end of July, and optional pre-season practices are held during the last two weeks of May. Practices are held daily in the morning or evening, depending on the team, and most meets are held on Saturday mornings. Optional meets and BVSSL Prelims are held on weekdays throughout the season. We also have a number of fun, social events throughout the summer to help build team cohesion.

First and foremost, we strive to help every swimmer improve their physical and mental conditioning, learn good sportsmanship and team spirit, and build confidence by participating in competition. Every meet has multiple heats of each race, and it is extremely important to us that every swimmer who is committed to practicing and improving has an opportunity to compete in every meet. To reinforce the focus on continuous improvement, every swimmer receives a printed "Speeding Ticket" and treat every time they log a new personal best time in competition.

We are also "competitive" without feeling competitive. You will see a lot of Louisville swimmers on the BVSSL Record Board, and the Louisville Dolphins has been the top scorer at the BVSSL Championships many times, including every year since 2012. While it's certainly fun to hoist the trophy at the end of the season, we primarily view team success in competition as confirmation of the excellence of our coaching and the hard work and dedication of our large team of swimmers.

The Louisville Dolphins is a nonprofit, parent-run organization. Every family is required to pitch in. Our volunteer Parents Of Dolphins (POD) organization hires our accomplished and devoted coaches, negotiates contracts, organizes all of the functions needed to run meets, and takes care of miriad other behind-the-scenes details. The rest of our families are expected to sign up for one volunteer shift at each home and optional meet that their children attend. A variety of volunteer positions are needed at every meet, and most parents find this a fun way to engage with the Louisville Dolphins community. This approach also helps to keep costs low and provide an excellent value relative to many other summer athletic programs.

Finally, we know that practice every day and meets on most weekends may sound like a lot. While every swimmer gets out what they put in, many of our families do take vacations or sign up for camps during the Louisville Dolphins season. We do our best to accomodate all families and help every swimmer get as much out of the summer swim season as possible.
